what would be a good thesis statement on schizophrenia
A thesis statement is a short and brief explanation of the main idea of the thesis or the research paper that provides answers to the hypothesis of the study. The thesis statement is ideally represented in one or two sentences that explains the results of the whole research paper. It is followed by the thesis title that states what the research is about and it is useful in providing a gist of the content to the readers. A good thesis statement must be focused on the purpose, the finding and the conclusion of the study which must be supported by evidence.
For example, a student is conducting a thesis on schizophrenia for identifying whether individuals with schizophrenia have empathy. She also hypothesizes that people with schizophrenia will have low empathetic abilities. She conducts her study by comparing 50 subjects out of which 25 have schizophrenia and the other 25 people are without schizophrenia. She collects data by obtaining the Empathetic Quotient (EQ) of all the subjects by providing them psychometric test. After completing the assessment, she compares the EQ of people with and without schizophrenia and identifies that the people with schizophrenia have a severe dysfunction in their empathetic abilities.
From this study 'Empathy in individuals with schizophrenia', the student had identified that the individuals with schizophrenia have a severe lack of empathetic abilities. This could be represented in the thesis statement as,
"Individuals with schizophrenia have a severe deficiency in their empathetic abilities which was studied by comparing the Empathetic Quotient (EQ) of the individuals with and without schizophrenia. "
This statements provides a brief explanation to the reader that the thesis was conducted to identify empathetic abilities among people with and without schizophrenia, the samples consisted of two groups of individuals, and the individuals with schizophrenia had less empathetic abilities. Therefore, the results and the answer to the hypothesis were explained in the thesis statement.
