The difference between the functional, matrix and project organizations are as follows:

1) Functional Organization: This is the kind of hierarchy wherein every employee would have the clear superior or the staff member which are being grouped by speciality which contains the marketing, production, engineering, accounting, production. Every department is considered a functional organization will have the project work independent on departments.

2) Matrix organization is where the reflection of blend with regards to functional as well projectized characteristics which can be differentiated as weak, blended or strongly dependent on the level of power and influence with regards to power and influence between the functional as well as project management. It is here that the weak matrix organization would maintain the characteristics of the functional organization and the role of the project manager would be more of the coordinator or the expediter. which works as the staff assistance as well as any communication coordinator. The expediter would not personally be able to make or make any decision. The project coordinator would have power for making decisions, and having the authority and also report for a higher-level manager while the strong matrix organization would have many of the characteristics for the projectized organization and also have the full-time project managers that would have right for balancing the matrix organization while this doesn't provide the project manager with the full authority via the project as well as the funding for giving the additional details of various matrix organizational structure.

3) Projectized organization is where the team member would colocate where the organization's resource which is involved in the project work and also the project manager would have a better deal of independence as well as authority.
