Three types of discrimination & Government role are-
- Gender: One of the discrimination that happens is on the basis
of gender. Even now in some countries, this is pursued extensively.
In several underdeveloped countries, women are not allowed to
study, to do jobs or to even leave the four walls of their home.
This has been taken care of from a recent times but it still exists
and affects government’s decision abruptly. If people discriminate
on the basis of gender and if government intends to stop that, it
has to allocate more funds in that direction. It costs the
government but it has become necessary. For example, government is
affected because they have to introduce more schemes like
reservation of women in jobs etc.
- Race and religion: people are biased on the basis of the
community they belong to. Color, religion, beliefs are some of the
factors that people are discriminated upon while giving employment
or scholarships etc. People are sometimes not as well off as others
and thus are called with different names. This kind of a activity
is generally not acceptable and governments tries to avoid this by
holding equality programmes. This affects the allocation of funds
but this is what has to be done in order to ensure the country
growth.
- Disablilty: sometimes people are discriminated on their
disabilities. They are not given equal opportunities because they
are physically or mentally challenged. Government tries to avoid
that by making reservations for them.
