Differences between Matrix operations And Team structure operations:
A product team structure, you surround a product with the professionals necessary to roll out the product. The staff report to the product manager, with secondary reporting to a functional manager. In a software environment, for example, this structure means software developers, technical writers, instructional designers, quality assurance engineers, marketing personnel and customer service staff are all directly supervised by a product manager. The functional manager does not have direct authority over staff members or resources dedicated to the product team. In a matrix structure, these staff members all work to support the product, but they have two direct supervisors -- the functional area manager and the product manager. Both of these managers have authority over the staff and resources working on the product.
