Various Types of Deceptions in Social Media:
1. Identity Deception: Identity deception is referred to as to pretend as someone else with fake images and information or with fake credentials etc. This type of deception is very much common in social media as none of the social media sites ask for actual identification of the user so most of the users have fake profiles in social media the most common real-world examples are fake profiles in sites like Facebook etc.
2. Manipulation of Data: Manipulation of data refers to mimicking the data or faking it like fake website or fake links to push the user to a fake site and prompt them to submit their personal and sensitive information.
3. Social Media Shopping: Now a days a lot of market is running in social media websites because users are using their profiles so make business and social media websites are also giving features like business accounts to the user due to this a lot of fake business accounts are being created trying to fraud people to buy products from their accounts rather than from actual brands.
Strategies to detect Online Deception:
1. One of the main ways of Online Deception is Identity deception in order to identify and detect identity deception avoid replying to strangers and if some one pretends to be a person that the user might know check the conversation for unusual behaviour or unusual questions about personal information if you find any of these then it might be case of Identity Deception.
2. Always use secure and up to date browsers because these browsers will identify and kind of fake website or links through certificates and also check when you are being redirected to any other external website check whether the certificate of the website is up to date and standards if not identify it as a fake or phishing website so do not provide any personal information in that website.
3. If you are buying any thing in social media always check whether the seller account is a trusted account or not in almost every social media websites official pages or accounts of official brands are always indicated with a signature or check mark that identifies or recognises that legitimacy of that account or page so the user can be sure about purchasing products from account or page in social media.
