Using what you know about group differences, identify at least three possible reasons that minority-group students are not actively participating in classroom lessons.
Answer. There can be many reasons why minority group students are not actively participating in classroom lessons . Three of them are:-
1. They may be having INFERIORITY COMPLEX . When they see other students in classroom using high standard things like expensive pencil boxes , copies , gadgets etc. children will obviously start comparing themselves with those students and as a result can develop great inferiority complexes in themselves .
2. Due to the above reason , they may become a complete introvert and shy away from teachers and other students. This will lead to their less or no participation in classroom activities and tasks actively. They may avoid school or coming to class or they may start sitting alone in class and not making friends.
3. The teacher also plays a vital role in this case. For a classroom with mixed students including those from minority groups , the class teacher should be very careful about her language and the type of activities she or he is planning to do in class. The curriculum should be ,ade as per the needs of the students without any bias . If the teacher fails to do so , children may not actively participate in the class at all.
