Deep Acting occurs when employees feelings don't actually help them in handling the present situations. They use their training or past experience to handle the situations or work up appropriate emotions. This is more beneficial than that of surface acting because the employees match their inner feelings with their display norms and this seems veritable with the customer too.
Surface Acting occurs when employees express the emption without feeling that emotion. Employees just follow the display norms without altering their inner feeling. This is the process to show expected emotions by larger degree of control through their external body display even though the emotions are not actually felt. Both deep acting and surface acting have positive impact on the subjective well-being of employees.
In Service Restaurant Industry, hospitality and customer service plays an important role. It is much important to have an emotional balance while interacting with the customers. Deep Acting can deliver better service performance. The affective tone of service encounters is most important aspect for service delivery. The affective delivery refers to the service delivery which is perceived as friendly and warm, relates to desirable outcomes.
Deep acting can be used to combat the effects of surface acting as-
*Deep acting is an exhorting feeling wherein the employee actively attempts to evoke or supress an emotion
*They use trained imagination technique whereby one actively invokes thoughts, images and memories to induce the associated emotion
Deep acting will have an edge over simple pretending in its power to convince because deep acting changes internal states so that the expression is perceived as authentic. Deep acting brings the feeling in line with the necessary expressions.
