EQUATION when calculating blood loss of a blood soaked item is:
1.) WET item gram weight minus ______________________________ = Milliliters of blood within the item.
2.) The client labored and delivered in the same bed. Prior to delivery, the pad under her buttock was soaked with serous sanginous blood. After delivery, the peripad is soaked with bright red blood. Which soaked pad is more indicative of hemorrhage? Why?
3.) It is a good idea to place dry pads under the woman at the end of labor, prior to delivery. Explain why this is true?
4.) Give 2 tips for quantifying blood loss during cesarean birth.
EQUATION when calculating blood loss = firstly we create a list of dry weights for delivery items like gauze, Vag Pack (vag del), towel, etc..as they that may become blood-soaked after and during the delivery.
1). WET Item (Gram Weight) – DRY Item (Gram Weight) = Milliliters of Blood within the item....
so if remaining weight is 500 grams it means 500 ml of blood loss is occured.
2). After delivery, the peripad is soaked with bright red blood, so that soaked pad is more indicative of hemorrhage (PPH. - POST PARTUM HEMORRHAGE)
AS prior to delivery the t most of the fluid is basically the amniotic fluid, urine, and feces along with irrigation fluid.
and after delivery i.e. extraction of placenta, fresh bleeding occured because of sudden extraction of placenta from the attachment to uterus leads to disturbance of blood barriers...
3). place dry pads under the woman at the end of labor, prior to delivery. ... in some places that practice is followed as per delivery the fluid is basically the amniotic fluid, urine, and feces along with irrigation fluid so if it spills without proper sockage can leads to hampering the site of proper visualization, it also creats dirty working area with chances of accidents and ofcourse it is a potential source of infection as well.
4). 2 tips for quantifying blood loss during cesarean birth.....
usually during ceasrean section the process of QBL when the ruptur of amniotic membrane occurs or as after the child is born.
same time suction starts and measure all amniotic fluid within the suction canister before delivery of the placenta.
After placental delivery, just measure the amount of blood lost in the suction canister and drapes.
so till this point, most of the blood will be calculates as notified by the team and documentation of the amount of blood lost in milliliters that will be equals to grams as per above mention equation.
