The two hormones involved in the case of hunger and satiety are ghrelin and leptin.
This hormones mostly affect our body's energy homeostasis leading to sensations of appetite and satiety. Whenever there is any shift in the delicate balance between ghrelin and leptin hormones, then these drastically affect our body's ability to regulate energy demands and storage, leading to pathophysiology.
What brain areas are involved in our experience of hunger and satiety?
The amygdala is the primary brain area regulating appetite with response to emotions. The amygdala activates to food cues. There are also two places in the hypothalamus, part of the brain, that controls hunger and eating. The Ventromedial Nuclei gives a signal when to stop eating, and the Lateral hypothalamus gives a signal to start eating. We feel satiety at the brain level because of the function of the Ventromedial Nuclei.
