Expert Solution

Data is the raw facts and figures, it is unorganized, Information, on the other hand, is the transformation of data into a structured form

The conversion of the data to information or knowledge required processing, structuring, and organizing of the data into a valuable source.

Now steps to convert data to information/knowledge is as follows:

1. Gathering of the data, at this step, gather all the required data.

2.In the next is the storage of all the collected data and also defining the primary and secondary key for the data.

3. Now, the next step is the manipulation of the collected data so as to give a structure to the data, manipulation of the data manipulates the structure.

4. After manipulation the language for the database is defined through which queries can be processed on the collected data to obtain the desired results.

5. The last is to create a report or a knowledge system for all the collected data. The final product is the structured information/knowledge from the raw data.

As the raw data is not understandable and difficult to extract meaningful information, so it is suggested to convert the raw data to information/knowledge so as to obtain meaningful information from the data.

Data and information or knowledge is often used interchangeably; however, data becomes information when it is viewed in context or in post-analysis. While the concept of data is commonly associated with scientific research, data is collected by a huge range of organizations and institutions, including businesses (e.g., sales data, revenue, profits, and stock price), governments (e.g., crime rates, unemployment rates, literacy rates) and non-governmental organizations (e.g., censuses of the number of homeless people by non-profit organizations).
