In the essay " Small change: Why the revolution Will Not Be Tweeted" by Malcolm Galdwell. The most important comparison Galdwell makes here is between revolutionary moments pre- and post Internet. How does he use this comparison not only to make his point but also to structure his essay. Could he had structured it other ways and would they have differed and been less effective?
It was interesting to read Malcolm Galdwell’s article, “ Small Change: Why the Revolution will not be Tweeted.” I was discussing the impact of sexting in the world of today & and it is clear that technology has an impact on our society. Technology and social media -- has the power to reach mass in a very short period to say inflash of seconds.. However, we never thought that it would reach out in networks as a opposed to hierarchal organization. It became a thought process , when using social media as a medium to rally up a group, there can still be some hierarchy. we may not be aware from where the text is being initated who is in chain, & what their exact plans are , but if somebody notifies the group ,plans & details it we think that , it has the ability to trail off and make decisions. In both situations, the leader can loose control, but can also guide the group. However, Gladwell gives the example of Wikipedia. exa It started with one person, but survived solely on contribution from others. The guy who started it can’t reign and monitor everything that goes on, the whole point of the webpage is to give power to the users. Now we agree with Gladwell that social media may be better medium to improve something rather than to start something form scratch. It is a tool to make things efficient & spread among more people — However, there are websites such as change.org that survive , users petitioning for causes they believe in. People take each case, consider it and turn it to action. Thus , Gladwell’s thoughts are that it is merely a medium to spread the word, rather than getting the job done.
Gladwell made strong & well supported points about how we link ourselves to causes through superficial means , we take the example of face book pages & use hashtags to show our support for a cause & we call ourselves a hero where we are not doing any thing. There was a effort to bring attention to the problems or views , the organisations had figured media attention that would encourage citizens, societies ,countries to seek attention in public
He compares the previous revolutions were successful because they were build on strong ties with the people who were willing to go out & do something , NOT JUST TALK & TALK. As social media is good way to spread ideas & inspire people But however it has a undermined meaning of being an activist . It is said that true activists are not the people who use hashtags but are active & ready to walk all along.
