Discuss adolescent identity development in relation to Bronfenbrenner’s ecological model.

Discuss adolescent identity development in relation to Bronfenbrenner’s ecological model.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Bronfenbrenner’s ecological model brings out the importance of various environments such as, micro, meso, exo, macro and chrono in one’s life. People are the products of their environment such as, parenting, family, friends, education, employment, culture, religion, political ideologies and socio-economic factors. This would mean that adolescents would develop their identity depending on the type of parenting they had, the influence of friends, family, education, culture, religion etc. This would mean that adolescents will have most influence from their culture because it differs between collective and individual cultures apart from the influence of parenting and education. However, all the five ecological elements or environments would interact with each other in shaping the attitudes, personality, values and worldview of the adolescents.
