Describe Bronfenbrenner’s model of ecological development. Reflecting upon your own experiences, explain how your Microsystems, Exosystems, and Macrosystem affected your development.
Please answer in 250 words or less.
Bronfenbrenner’s model of ecological development proposes five levels such as, Micro, Meso, Exo, Macro and Chrono that would affect an individual as they grow. Microsystem refers to the immediate circle of people with whom the child will come in contact with such as the parents, friends, siblings, relatives and teachers. The action of the child and the reactions of those connected with the child’s micro environment will have massive impact on the child’s life because it’s very direct. Mesosystem refers to the relationship and transaction between the members in the child’s microsystem. Although the child do not have a direct involvement in the actions and reactions of those in the circle, the outcomes would affect them very much. Exosystem consists of the neighborhood, relatives, extended family who are not in regular contact with the child but still affect their lives through other means. Macrosystem refers to the culture, religion they belong to, political system and the economic system to which the child belongs to. Chronosystem refers to the change in the existing system such as family structure, parents’ employment, wars, earthquakes etc.
I had a very supporting parents, friends and teachers so not only my micro environment but also my mesosystem and my exosystem were also good. I went through a family restructuring and had to move to few other places because of my parents’ employment. Thus the entire ecosystem had a great impact on my development.
