An ultrasound of pregnant woman detects a fetus and similarly sized and shaped structure that has disorganized remnant of facial features at one end. Amniocentesis reveals that the fetus is 46,XX, but cells of the other structure are 47,XX. Trisomy 2. No cases of trisomy 2 infants have ever been reported. However, individuals who are mosaic for trisomy 2 have collection of defects, including a rotated and underdeveloped small intestine, a small head, hole in the diaphragm, and seizures.
