Negotiation could be regarded as the process in which one
individual or party sits and settle down its disputes or problems
with another party to come or reach upon an agreement. The major
elements of the negotiation strategy are as follows:
- Interests: Interests are the driving mechanism for any
negotiation process. Our basic needs and wants are meet with this
negotiation process and thus interest in one major element to be a
part of negotiation process.
- Legitimacy: Legitimacy guides with our ethical actions and
considerations taken. One should be legitimate while making the
negotiable decisions and statements, true to himself and to others
as well.
- Relationships: Another important element in the relationship we
share with the person the negotiation process is taking place. Is
the person the same level employee, a higher authority person, a
subordinate etc. Relationships in negotiations are also a key
element.
- Alternatives: Alternatives or Options tells us what are the
available ideas we have to reach out the deal in negotiation
process. If the person is not agreeing with the same purpose you
proposing, what alternative one can choose.
- Commitments: Commitments talk about how loyal and trustworthy a
person is while completing all the deals which are made and settled
down at the time of serving itself. One should be trustworthy and
committed towards the actions and the words he took.
- Communication: At last, communication is the last major element
for negotiation. Negotiation can't take place without effective
communication. Both listening as well speaking skills are highly
required to reach out an agreement in this process.
