There are three techniques which help users discover their needs for the new system, list and compare these techniques in terms of impactful changes. Also, explain BPR.
When a client approaches you he is not aware completelly of his requirement for example a school comes to you and ask you to design them a software where they can gather the record of each student.One has to analyse their businesscompletely in order to provide them quality system.There are certain questions which help in understanding business requirements for example what is being done,how it is done, What are the problems being faced and the decisions of the management.This is Requirement gathering.The business Analyst gather information of requirement from Business people and then translate it to IT proffessionals and developers.
There are many techniques of requirement gathering. The first one is
INTERVIEW
In the Interview technique three things are covered like what does the current syatem look like ,what are the challenges, how do you see the solution.and so on.Intervies can be formal,informal,face to face . Open ended and closed ended questions to validate and confirm.Interviews are not a good way to reach team consensus.
FOCUS GROUPS
It comes into picture when you want elicit information from a selected group via a facilitator. Here Business Analyst is the facilitator.remember it is a formal process usually has 6-12 attendees.Make sure to involve each member in the conversation while conducting focus group and remain neutral.
Focus Gruoups save time and cost by not undergoing multiple interview scnarios.
DOCUMENT ANALYSIS
This is retrieving information from the existing documents.This is very helpful when SME is not there or no longer works with the Organisation.Examples are E-mail,Business Plan,Project charter,Contracts,staement of work.It gives a better insight of the business needs and the requirement of system.
There are other techniques as well like Brainstorming,Observation,Interface Analysis,Process Analysis etc,
BPR or Business Process Reengineering is set of activities which are required to fulfill any business related Task.SOPs are standards of procedures on whose basis different acivities are carried out.reengineering defines better performance,increased functionality,greater reliability.it creates revised business process that meet current goals.It involves document restructing and inventory analysis.
The principle behind reengineering is to incorporate information processing work into real work to produce raw information.
