a. In the history of philosophy during the High Middle Ages, William of Ockham is well known today for his conceptualisation of of metaphysical nominalism.
His methodological principle known as “Ockham's Razor in a way laid the foundation for a theory of scepticism which is a hallmark of scientific foundations of Psychology today. According to Ockham’s Razor, there is not sufficient reason or evidence for affirming universal theories. we should refrain from doing so in the absence of further evidence. Ockham’s ideas were foundational in Psychology’s evolution of as a system of theories and knowledge and Ockham’s razor contributed to the current day principle of parsimony which is deemed as the key factor in scientific research- that a more complex explanation for a phenomenon should be discarded when a simpler one is available.
Moreover, his empirical orientation allowed for a development within Psychology towards focussing on the sensory data, first hand experience as a valid source of knowledge about reality.
