Question 1
Discuss the assessment techniques of the neurological system in an infant and include one usual abnormal finding
Question 2
Discuss the assessment techniques of the abdomen in an adult male and include one usual abnormal finding
Question 3
Discuss the assessment techniques of the musculoskeletal system of an older adult, focusing on lower extremities (NOT ambulation), and include one usual abnormal finding
1.The neurological system assessment of an infant includes the history collection. It includs the feeding history injury and the family history
General examination - which includes the head cicumference, presence of hair can make out the abnormalities like spina bifida
Assessment of the cranial nerve is important in neurological assessment
Check the pupil for the response to light, check the hearing capacity by observing the head and eys movement towards the sound
Checking t he sucking and swallowing for bulbar dysfunction
Checking the motor response to find out the hypotonia and the hypertoinia, abnormal flextion of the hipand the extrimities.
Checking the reflexus, which includes the moro reflux and the palmar reflex
2. The assessment technique of the abdomen in an adult male patient include, inspection, auscultation, palpation and percussion.
Inspection is the visual exmaination. In this the examiner observe the abdomen for the skin colour, shape, and the movement of the abdominal muscles
Auscultation is an abdominal assessment technique which is performed with the help of sthethescope. In this method the examiner can find the presence and the absence of bowel sound
Palpation is a techniuqe done by the examiner by palpating the abdomen with his fingers in particular manner.By doing this the examiner can find out the abdominal tenderness, swelling, abdominal mass and the enlargement of certain organs like liver and kidney
Percussion is a method to perform the abdominal assessment by placing the finger of the examiner on the abdomen and taping on the finger.By doing this the examiner can find the gaseous area ,water filled area etc on the abdomen by listening to the sound difference during the taping.Ascitis can make out in this way.
3.The assessment technique of musculoskeletal system include inspection, palpation and manipulation.
Inspection includes the ovisual observation of the examiner. While doing the inspection the examiner observes the colour, size and the symmetry of the extrimity.Always compare with the opposite side to makesurethe changes.Ask the patient to walk and observe for any changes. While doing the musculaoskeletal assessment the examiner should examine from the foot .
In palpation the examiner palpate the area for swelling, tenderness, warmth of the are. While palpating observe the patients facial expression to detect the pain in that particular area.
In manipulation the examination of the joints are done with certain movements of joints like flextion, extension, rotation and laterla bending.(range of motion of joints)
