Construct a (2-3) page reflection paper addressing to what extent has managed care been successful in containing health care costs. Describe how these changes can affect you.
Answer:-
Cost control was initially successful as evidenced by the slowing down of the rate of growth in health care expenditures during the 1990s. This cost containment effect plateaued in 1998 with a backlash from providers and patients prompting driving the move away from aggressive cost control measures. Given this, the full cost control potential was never fully realized. Managed care is still recognized to represent the most likely model in which cost savings will occur. Further cost controls may likely come with the limitation upon the use of expensive new technologies. The recent rise in the use of legitimate forms of alternative and complementary medicine, and those specific treatments that offer cost savings when compared to conventional medicine, represent a new way in which costs may be reduced without a perceive loss in quality. Examples: stress management, meditation classes, acupuncture.
