The process for developing prototypes is developing initial design and testing it through mock up made on trial basis called prototype. It is the first product that is developed as per the planning for manufacturing or replicating on large scale to test the problems faced during the production on large scale or any changes that the stakeholders ask to make.

Designers can use prototype to develop better products or solutions by checking the performance of the product, its different features, shape or size. Prototype is developed on trial basis to check if it is as per the consumer demands and the product designed for performing the specific functions. Based on the prototype performance, the products can be improved with doing any necessary changes.

Rapid prototype is the favorite kind of prototype. It is developed through modelling on computer to check on the actual target product to be manufactured and testing it before as a prototype in the form of a computer aided design.

Prototype helps the testing process and overall design thinking process because it provides a rapid method for checking the actual performance of a product, checking its validity and customer response. The overall design and process can check the validity of their ideas and impact through prototype that is a faster and inexpensive process to detect any need for changes before producing it on larger scale.
