What are some of the foods and medications that may precipitate an episode of reflux esophagitis?
Esophagitis: Inflammation of esophagus.
- Esophagitis is a disease that can be painful and can make swallowing difficult.
- Esophagitis can be caused by infection, irritation, and/or inflammation of the lining of the esophagus.
- The most common cause of esophagitis is gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD):
- It is a Backflow of gastric or duodenal contents, or both,
into the esophagus and past the lower esophageal sphincter (LES),
without associated belching or vomiting.
- Reflux of gastric acid, causing acute epigastric pain, usually
after a meal.
- It is Popularly called heartburn.
- Also called GERD
Food & Medication that may precipitate an episode of Reflux Oesophagitis:
- Acidic and fatty food
- Alcohol, cigarettes
- Anticholinergics(atropine, belladonna, propantheline) or other drugs (morphine sulfate, diazepam, calcium channel blockers, meperidine hydrochloride).
