Expert Solution

Do you think these motivational theories are still practical for modern-day employees, why or why not?

Yes. Motivational theories which have for ages dominated pour workplaces are nowadays being questioned and checked if they are still relevant. Motivational theories have time and again proved themselves very relevant and applicable to the sunlight of the day. These theories guide organizations in framing their policies, strategies, procedures, reward system, Performance management. The needs of the man may change over time but their innate desire for something which motivates them is still there and is covered by motivational theories. These motivational theories draw their knowledge from Psychology, sociology, economics and are empirically proven. Theories are bound to be challenged by new research but when we look at the bigger picture it shows us that old motivational theories have kept their relevancy intact and have provided a strong basis for new research in psychology and specifically new motivational theories.

To Conclude, I support the argument that motivational theories are still very relevant and will continue to inspire our workplaces.

Which motivational theory if any is the most practical in terms of motivating you at your job? As an employer how would you motivate your employees?

I will go by Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs which is very simple, robust and at the very same time something which every employee relates to. Maslow talks about the hierarchy of needs and says that lower-order needs are important to be achieved if we want to achieve the next higher level need.

As an employer, I would motivate employees by looking at what needs employees have and how they are to be met. Here, I will consider the survey and ask each employee, what they value most and customize Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory, It will really make employees feel that they are being valued and their needs are being catered at the individual level. People with similar needs to be clustered in the same group and different strategies could be developed accordingly so as to motivate them.
