My question is on sexual Harassment prevention. Briefly describe what training you selected and what it entails. Explain why this type of training is relevant to the healthcare industry. Based on what you know about the healthcare industry, is there any special training that you would mandate your staff to participate in if you wer
e a manager? If so, why?
Harassment of any kind is illegal and not acceptable. As the cases of workplace harassment were increasing, the government as well as the employers started coming up with interventions to put an end to it. One of the most important intervention in this regard is of creating awareness. More than 40% of the victims do not have idea that they are being harassed and they have the right to raise an alarm against the same. Hence awareness trainings like sexual harassment training, workplace harassment training, etc. are becoming prevalent in organizations.
My company had organized a 3 day workshop for sexual harassment training for all employees. In this 3 day workshop, we were taught the following:
· Awareness about the different types of harassment prevalent at the workplace
· The right and privileges of a victim
· Ways to avoid the harassment
· Practical training on self-defense
This type of training can be quite relevant for healthcare industry as it has been seen that nurses and health aides become easy target of sexual harassment. This will create an awareness among all the health workers and make them feel confident and more secure.
The current crime rate is on upsurge, it is quite important the employers come up with ways in which life of employees can be made more secure. In my views, self defense training is the need of the hour. Employees are the most critical assets of any organization. Hence their safety an well-being is a matter of concern for the employers. Self-defense trainings must be mandated to be participated by all employees of organization. These training will help the employees from falling prey to any kind of harassment and thus putting an end to a disgusting trend.
