Describe four paths to nursing leadership/management.
In 2006, Bondas explored that Finnish nurses want to take leadership and management positions and use a questionnaire with a sample size of 68 nurses who were active in all leadership positions.She Applied induction to generate theory and found four different paths according to their education,commitment and situational factors.
They are four paths:
Path of Chance: It describes that when nurses offered a leadership position without seeking. It is a path that happens hen a vacancy in leadership role that will occurs unexpectedly.In her study 31% participants said that they never worked in a leadership role.Nurses moved into leadership position because some of them encouraged them to work in leadership role.
Path of ideas: Path of ideas describes that when nurses make a choice to become or work as leader they will often seek novel knowledge and education prepared themselves to work in their leadership role. Leader choose ideas by making difference in their patient care,particular unit or intentional pursuit in a leadership position.
Path of career:These path describes that nurses want to become formal leaders of different reasons.They will pursue their roles to work daytime hours,and move freely in the organization and to obtain control more in work hours to earn a high salary and to do more work and take as challenge.
Temporary pathway:It is slightly different form path of chance and it is opportunity for a leadership trail to return to previous position.Nurse function as a substitute until the leader is hired in their position and experience of a leader was negative and person had a chance to lead again with in the organization.
