The Florida nurse practice act ,chapter 464,Florida statutes was enacted to ensure that every nurse practicing in Florida meets minimum requirements for safe practice .A Nurse who falls below the minimum competency or who other wise present a danger to the public shall be prohibited from practicing in Florida. The main purpose of nursing practice act is to protect the public from unsafe practitioners and the ultimate goal is to competent quality nursing Care provided by qualified practitioners.
The nursing license is the individual agreement between the nurse and the state governing bodies committing the nurse to function competently with in the nurses practice act.
Delegation is transferring to a competent individual the authority to perform a selected nursing task in a selected situations.The professional registered nurse retain accountability for delegation of task to the UAP /NAP. UAP: unlicensed assistive personnel.
Unlicensed personnel who are not professional registered nurses but who are accountable to and work under the direct supervision of a professional registered nurse to implement specifically delegated patient care activity.
Considerations in delegation of Task :
*Identify tasks for the delegation based on client needs. *Ensure appropriate education,skills and experience of personnel performing delegated tasks. *Assign and Supervise care provided by the others.Communicate tasks to be completed and report client concerns immediately. *Evaluation of an individual states/province's current nurse practice act to ensure that UAP/NAP job descriptions and delegated activities are consistent with established rules and regulations. *Written job descriptions that clearly delineate duties ,responsibilities ,qualifications,skills and supervision of UAP/NAP s. * Orientation and education of UAPs ,including didactic content as needed and appropriate for the clinical settings,knowledge evaluation and clinical skills verification consistent with performance expectations and role responsibilities. *Clearly defined written parameters to ensure that all UAPs are supervised directly by and responsible to professional registered nurse..
