Treatment of Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is not curable but treatable. Nowadays treatment facility for a schizophrenic patient has been improved. Nowadays different kinds of treatments are used for treating a schizophrenic patient. Such as

Medication- Antipsychotic medicines are now used for the treatment of a schizophrenic patient. These Antipsychotic drugs can control the symptoms of Schizophrenia which are appearing for the affected Dopamine.Antipsychotic drugs such as antidepressant medicines can reduce the depression level and can also release anxiety. Psychiatrists are now using antipsychotic drugs like Aripiprazole , Brexpiprazole, Olanzapine etc. This treatment is an effective treatment for nowadays.

Interventions - When it comes to Schizophrenia, Psychosocial interventions are important for treating that disorder. There psychological therapy which can reduce the symptoms of Schizophrenia. Such as Individual psychotherapy, Family therapy, Communicational rehabilitation etc. These programs are very effective nowadays for the treatment of Schizophrenia.

Hospitalization – Mental Hospitals have special treatment arrangement for the patients of Schizophrenia. Nowadays in emergency cases, patients can be hospitalized for a better treatment. These mental hospitals can provide proper nutrition, proper safety and the feeling of security to the patient.

Therapies – One of the popular and effective therapies of the Schizophrenia is psychotherapy. Sometimes in emergency cases psychiatrists also suggests to give the Electroconvulsive Therapy to the patient (Depending upon the patient’s condition).

How was this Disorder treated in the past?

In the past such as in early twentieth century, A schizophrenic patient was treated by the ‘’Fever Therapy’’. In this therapy, the psychiatrist had tried to stimulate fevers in the Schizophrenic patient. This was a popular treatment in the past.

Other kinds of therapy such as Sleep therapy, Electroconvulsive Therapy also had been used for the treatment of a schizophrenic patient.

But the medication facility was not so available in the treatment procedure of Schizophrenia. The first and One and only Antipsychotic drug was Chlorpromazine. This medicine was released in the market in the year 1950.

Has that changed?

Nowadays the treatment procedure of Schizophrenia has been changed. It becomes more advanced and effective. In the past, medical facility was not so available. Chlorpromazine was the one and only Antipsychotic medicine in the past.

But nowadays so many antipsychotic medicines are available for the treatment of a schizophrenic patient.

Interventions like social interventions are also significantly proved to work as a treatment. Diagnosis, prevention, and treatment everything becomes more advanced nowadays. Such as

Interventions- Psychological Interventions have been changed nowadays. Social interventions, Family therapy, counseling procedure everything are more advanced nowadays. There are so many types of interventional methods such as biological, cognitive, behavioral are included in the treatment procedure of a patient.

Medical – Medical facility has been changed nowadays. There are so many types of Antidepressant and antipsychotic drugs are available for the treatment of a Schizophrenic patient. Such as Aripiprazole, Olazapine, Risperidone etc. Medical facility has changed effectively nowadays.

Therapy – Therapy was the most popular treatment in the previous generation and now it is included with so many options. Such as psychiatrists are now recommending psychotherapy after proper diagnosis and screening of the patient’s condition.

Psychoanalytic therapy, Electrical shock therapy, counseling therapy are provided to the patient of schizophrenia nowadays.

Prognosis – Prognosis refers to prediction of development of the illness. It is included in the treatment procedure of nowadays. This method was not so popular in the past.
