1.Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a condition that causes progressive damage to optic nerve often associated with increased intraocular pressure. It is of two types open angle glaucoma and angle closure glaucoma.
Treatment of glaucoma
1.Eye drops :To lower creation of fluid in the eyes and also increase the outflow there by lowering the intraocular pressure.
2.Oral medications :oral medications such as beta blockers or carbonic anhydrase inhibitors act by improving drainage and also slowing the creation of fluids in the eye.
3.Laser surgery :Laser sugery include :
Trabeculoplasty:opens the drainage area
Iridotomy:Tiny hole on iris to make the fluid flow freely
Cyclophotocoagulation:treatment to lower the fluid production
4.Microsurgery :It is also called trabeculectomy in which a new channel is created to drain fluid and ease intraocular pressure.
2.If glaucoma remains untreated increased intraocular pressure can cause permanent damage to optic nerve that can lead to visual loss which cannot be restored anymore.
