Communication is very essential to all the beings and processes
in the world. We cannot even imagine about a world without
communication. At its simplest, communication is the exchange of
ideas, thoughts, attittudes or any of such kind between people or
things which is able to communicate. There are many ways by which
we can communicate, they are as follows
- Verbal communication
- Nonverbal communication
- Written communication
- Visual communication
There are several reasons to noneffective communication.This can
be an error either from sender or receiver or message or
combination of these factors or even other external factors related
to communication. These are called barriers or hindrence to
communication.
Some common hindrences and the way to address are described
below
- Use of jargons: Jargons are technical or scientific words used
in a communication. These terms must be avoided inorder to make a
communication effective. Simple use of language will lead to smooth
communication.
- Lack of interest and attention: This is a serious issue related
with receiver in a communication. The communication would be utter
failure if this happens, so the receiver has to develop effective
listening skills.
- Cultural differences: people are unique because they come from
different part of the world and cultures. So a wide understanding
of cultural differences is a key point for an effective
communication.
- Prejudice: steriotypes and prejudices about people or culture
must be avoided inorder to facilitate a good communication. Being
open minded is the only way to tackle the issue
- Language proficiency: Language is very important in a
communication, but a good use of nonverbal communication,k over the
concept and self confidence can overcome your deficiency in
language.
