According to communication researcher Everett Rogers, at least five factors will influence a person's decision to adopt a new idea or product. Name and define three of them. ANSWERS MUST BE 20 LINES LONG
Everett Rogers has defined five stages in the change adoption process, the completion of these five stages is instrumental for a new idea to be successfully adopted:
The five factors or stages that influences a person’s decision to adopt a new idea or product are:
1. Knowledge
2. Persuasion
3. Decision
4. Implementation
5. Confirmation
I will define the first three factors:
1. Knowledge: The person or the group who is potentially targeted for this idea adoption should be made aware and briefed thoroughly about the new idea, product or concept. And it should me made sure that each of the person in the group who are supposed to adopt the new ideas, comprehend the new idea and its intricate details completely. So, that in the final stage of confirmation, the new idea or the product is not questioned by the group of people and no emotional dissonance exists within them, which creates a conducive environment for adoption of new ideas.
2. Persuasion: In this stage the group of people who are going to adopt the new idea will ascertain the potential value of adopting a new idea and will further explore its capabilities. In this stage, the new idea or product should seem to be very effective to the people adopting the idea as this is very critical for them to be convinced with the new idea. Testimonies of people using the new idea successfully can be of great help to persuade the people to follow the new idea or product. And often this factor is ignored, when a senior leader is content with the new idea and does not think essential to convince every single individual and this might create a problem at the end.
3. Decision: At this stage we can conclude the new idea adoption process has reached half a way in its journey and in this stage the factor which plays the role is decision. There is a decision to me made regarding whether or whether not to adopt the new idea or product? Here to decide, sometimes a referendum or input of a senior leader is used. Once the decision is made to adopt the new idea, each individual can still decide whether they will actually use it, so it is important for everyone to feel included and contribute to the decision-making factor.
