Today there are many institues or NGOs which take care of academic responsibility of the children. Many institues in India such as Akansha, Teach for India are there which has a pool of intelligent workers and who help poor kids in return. The staff over there recognize that these children are not getting enough education due to lack of awareness hence night schools are run in such areas.
One of my cousins is working in such school, she is intelligent and wants to serve poor kids instead of earning rich fat amount from a company. Acc to her their basic intelligence level itself is very low or less, they do not know simple addition or substraction - Here I am referring to kids who are 12-13 year old. So they need to be taught with lot of love and from basic. Hence normal portion which is there for any 7th std or 8th std would not be compatible, they need to be taught with basics intially.
They need to be made aware of the importance of education and improved quality of life along with it. Hence I believe day to day examples can be taken which occur in their life for critical thinking. Such if there is any water problem how to solve that problem, how to distribute the work, how to lessen ego instead of fighting. After these day to day problems of critical solving which can be done everyday then redirecting them to studies is easier. This also sharpens their brain and makes them more focus.
Using audio, visual content along with charts etc used for memorizing things also helps in focusing or memorising. This in turn helps in developing keen interest in studies.
