Select the recommended statin for a 32-year-old Girl with DM-1 from
the age of 8, a history of Stage 4 chronic kidney disease, and a

A Zocor® (simvastatin) 40 mg po OPM or HS
B A statin is not recommended because of your age.
C Lopid® (gemfibrozil) 600 mg po BID
D Crestor® (rosuvastatin) 40 mg po AM
E Lipitor® (atorvastatin) 10 mg po QAM
1)Zocor® (simvastatin) 40 mg po OPM or HS is given mainly to treat Hypercholesterolemia.
Usual dosage range: 5-40 mg PO qDay but in presence of CHD or at high risk for cardiovascular events, including patients with diabetes, PVD, history of stroke or other cerebrovascular disease: 40 mg PO qDay in the evening adjunct to diet therapy.
2)Statins are one of the most commonly prescribed categories of medication for high cholesterol and recommend statin treatment for people younger than age 40 only if LDL-C levels are at least 190 mg/dL or at least 130 or 160 mg/dL when other risk factors are present risk factors include hypertension, smoking, and obesity so conclusion is giving Statins to Young People Is a Bad Idea if above mentioned guidlines are not followed.
3)Lopid® (gemfibrozil) 600 mg po BIDGemfibrozil is used together with diet to treat very high cholesterol and triglyceride levels and is used to decrease a person’s risk of pancreatitis and is also used to decrease the risk of heart disease in certain patients with high cholesterol.
Contraindications is it is not take gemfibrozil if you have severe liver or kidney disease, gallbladder disease, or if you are also taking repaglinide or simvastatin.
4)Crestor® (rosuvastatin) 40 mg po AM Crestor is a prescription medicine that contains a cholesterol-lowering medicine called rosuvastatin calcium.
This is used to treat adults who cannot control their cholesterol levels by diet and exercise andchildren 8 to 17 years of age with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (an inherited condition that causes high levels of LDL)children 7 to 17 years of age with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia.
5)Lipitor® (atorvastatin) 10 mg po QAMLipitor belongs to a class of drugs called Lipid-Lowering Agents, Statins, HMG-CoA Reductase Inhibitors and in adult patients with type 2 diabetes, and without clinically evident coronary heart disease, but with multiple risk factors for coronary heart disease such as retinopathy, albuminuria, smoking, or hypertension, LIPITOR is indicated for-
Reduce the risk of myocardial infarction
Reduce the risk of stroke.
