Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus Susan is an 8-year-old girl who has been brought to her pediatrician by her mother for a weight loss of 5 pounds over the past 2 months, despite an increased food intake. Subjective Data Susan complains of thirst, hunger, and frequent voiding. Objective Data Today’s weight: 25 kg Weight from a physical examination 6 months ago: 27.3 kg Fingerstick glucose: 325 Hemoglobin A1c: 9.1 Urinalysis: glycosuria pH: 7.34 Father was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 8 years.
Susan plays after-school sports; will she have to stop these activities?
From above data,it has been clear Susan is suffered from TYPE 1 Diabetes mellitus or insulin dependent diabetes
Her blood glucose level is very high
So right now she need to be hospitalisation to stable the blood glucose level
Susan blood glucose level is elevated because of non production of insulin by beta cell of langerhan in pancreas as insulin help to lower blood glucose level, increase uptake of blood sugar in skeletal tissue,uptake of sugar by cell for normal functioning of body
As Susan glycosylated haemoglobin level is 9.1(normal 4.5 to 5.6) which give over last 90days blood glucose level
Glycosylated Hb is Hb coated by sugar as in diabetes blood sugar level increase which is circulated in blood and uptake by Hb form glycosylated Hb

But control by managing lifestyle

Control blood sugar
Be active
