What are the main concerns with the dietary protein choices and why?

What recommendations, given many suffer from chronic diseases, would you give re: protein sources? (perhaps a ratio of animal protein to plant protein).

concern with the dietary protein choices-

  • Protein is very important for human and it helps in formation of bones, tissue, muscles, blood cartilage, and skin, we obtained proteins from several sources which includes plant and animal sources such as meat , dairy products, nuts, grains aw well as from the  beans which helps in building, repair and maintaining the several human body parts as well as for the  growth for body cells.
  • we need protein in a certain amount for our physiological function and excess amount of proteins are not useful for our health and leads to several problems including-
    • excess proteins is stored and leads to weight gain and liver related problems
    • leads to production of high cholesterol leads to cardiovascular diseases
    • also Increases chances of cancer risk.
    • leads to production of stones in kidney and results in Kidney disease
    • high amount of protein causes constipation and diarrhea, dehydration, indigestion
    • cause calcium loss that leads to osteoporosis and problem related with  bone health.

Recommendations (Animal protein to plant protein)- we know that there are 20 amino acids divided into 9 essential and rest non-essential amino acids   essential amino acids are not synthesised by our body and we get it from the food, and rests are synthesised in our body.

  • Some animal sources have complete protein, including fish, eggs, dairy products like milk, whey, chees, red meat obtained from cows, deer, poultry as chickens, and quails while Most plant proteins obtained from grains, lentils,legume, nuts and vegetables have contain high amounts of proteins does not have all the essential component i.e. are incomplete protein.
  • Few animal protein have high amount of heme iron, Vitamin D, Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) , Zinc, vitamin B-12 but plants does not have these. while plants contains phytonutrients, antioxidants which are not found in animal protein.
  • Animal contain high level of saturated fatty acids and cholesterol that may leads to cardiovascular disease but plant does not have, so vegetarians human have a lower body weight, lower level of cholesterol and also have lower blood pressure.
  • Fiber is present in plant sources and helps in digestion related balance inside the body.
  • so we have to focus on a wide variety of food sources containing different types of nutrients such as proteins , carbohydrates , fats helpful in body growth and maintenance rather than sources and types of proteins.
