Non verbal communication is the way of communication through sending and receiving wordless messages.Language is not the only source of communication.People can communicate through gestures,body postures,facial expressions,eye contact,clothing, hairstyles or even symbols, architecture, infographics etc.Speech containing non verbal elements like voice quality, speaking style,rythm intonation,and stress.Dance is also regarded as non verbal communication.

The first scientific study of NVC(non verbal communication) was given in the book Expression of emotions in man and animals by Charles Darwin.He said that all mammals show emotions reliably in their faces.

Like as the language,all countries or say culture have their own way of NVC.NVC is very important in Egypt as it is hard for them to say no or voice lack of interest in a request or project,instead they give a big smile and non committed answers like God willing(insha'Allah) or tomorrow's (bokra). Due to their warm and hospitable nature they hug,kiss and loudly welcome their guests and friends.They are also very respectful and show deference when they meet someone for the first time.They are very emotional however affectionate displays between men and women are not acceptable,even holding hands while walking is frowned upon, especially in remote towns and villages.Homosexuality is taboo and results in rejection,exclusion, imprisonment.Men greet each other with a handshake and if they know the person well they may give a kiss on cheek.Egyptian men get very close to one another while speaking.They also tend to use facial expressions as well as gestures.women though tend to only truly express themselves when around close friends or relatives.Direct eye contact is expected within same gender.Giving direct eye contact to opposite gender is considered a come on.Touching all 4 fingers to the thumb with the palm facing inwards and moving it up and down is used to tell someone to calm down ir wait a minute.Calling someone from a distance can include whistling, clapping,or saying psst in a loud voice.Pointing your toe or heel or any foot part is impolite.It is normal to use excessive hand gestures while speaking. Don't make no. 5 with your hand with the palm facing out and don't stretch your arm out with your palm in someone's face.A palm indicate wording off evil,so those gestures can be offensive.When a woman meet another woman they handshake or kiss on cheeks while between a man and woman hanshake and cheek kissing is only acceptable if you are close friends or relatives.If woman doesn't extend her hand firstvmen are expected to bow their head in greeting towards woman.When in conversation touching between same gender is common while between opposite gender there is no touching.when near the opposite gender,sitting or standing should be a arma length away.Space between same gender can usually kept to a minimum(less than a arm length away).Do not remain seated if a elder is standing.Althought Egypt is a conservative society they are also very territorial especially when it comes to inheriting things that have been in the family in generations.
