How do parenting styles impact a child's level of physical activity? Are children raised by parents with permissive or uninvolved parents less active than those raised by parents with authoritative or authoritarian styles? (Explain + Examples)
Parenting styles can affect the physical activity level in children . As we know, permissive parenting style involves a very loving relationship with very less number of rules and restrictions whereas on the other hand authoritative parenting styles involve strict rules and regulations . At present permissive parenting style is associated with high levels of physical activity . This is because in this parenting style parents treat the child more like a friend which provides the child space to explore within a certain limits. On the other hand in the authoritative style there are many restrictions on the child and the child feels bound or controlled and often hesitate to initiate tasks and other things . In the permissive parenting style logistic support . A small amount of logistic support i nhtis parenting style increases the physical activity levels in children. In this style the child sees you as a role model and gets influenced by what you do . A friendly bond leads to increased physical activity whereas in the authoritative style the child becomes afraid and lacks confidence to learn or initiate new behaviors . The concept of role modeling is very less applied here .Permissive style also involves encouragement which induces confidence in the child ,Child feels free to do different tasks and take initiatives which leads to more physical activity . We can take an example of a child who is under an authoritative style and whenever he or she wants to try something the child is discouraged . It makes the child under confident and fearful which has a negative impact on physical activity . Similarly when a child is appreciated and motivated he or she explores things which leads to more physical activity .
