How does your faith,identity or values shape your interest and commitment to social welfare?
Social welfare is the assistance program formulated to help the destitute and disadvantaged people in a society or a country. It can be done by individuals, organization, or government. Our faith, identity, or values shape our interest and commitment to social welfare in many ways.
Our faith teaches us many things which are important for the welfare of the society. Evidences show that religion and faith are very important in promoting tolerance, respect, understanding and reconciliation which is much needed to establish harmony in a society. Faith in God makes us feel to do charity work, that's why many people do social welfare works. It gives a powerful positive force in the prevention, management and resolution of conflict, which ultimately lead to peace in society. Many people are inspired from their faith to do donation for social welfare schemes. Our faith shapes our mind to uplift human rights as well . For example, people who have faith in Sikhism give free food to the needy in their gurudwara as well as where natural calamity occurs. This is a kind of social welfare inspired by the faith.
Our identity also shapes our interest and commitment to social welfare. When a person's identity become famous among people, he feels it is his responsibility to do social welfare work. They do philanthropic as well as social welfare work. For example, Azim Premji is the MD and founder of Wipro company. He is among the popular persons of India. He has made his identity. Amidst the chaos of coronavirus, he donated a huge amount of INR 50,000 crores to the charity. He donates money for making hospitals so that health care facility in India improves. He is known for giving donations to help people of the less advantaged section to receive a good education.
A person with good values always inspired to do social welfare work. Therefore, our values shape our interest and commitment to social welfare. A person with good values, irrespective of his faith, work for the upliftment of the society. They help the disadvantaged section of our society so that they can get equal opportunity. For example, Baba Amte was a social worker from India. His father taught him to help the needy since his childhood. This values inspired him to work for the rehabilitation and empowerment of people suffering from leprosy. Hence, we can say that our faith, identity or values shape our interest and commitment to social welfare.
