How does teaching for social justice emphasize the application of biblical values and ethics within the workplace?
Ans. Teaching for social justice emphasizes the applications of biblical value and ethics within the workplace because in teaching social justice, students are taught the virtues, values and ethics that directly align with those of the bible. As teachers often play a major role in the intellectual and moral quality of student’s educational experiences, the teacher can teach the virtues, values, and ethics that are responsive to their aim of social justice, and will become relevant within the knowledge/ teacher.
Beginning with the broad categories of intellectual and moral virtue, I suggest bringing in insights from philosophical work on virtue ethics virtues are intrinsically motivated and require overcoming obstacles both internally and in the world. For any proposed virtue of social justice educators, we should, thus, consider (a) its characteristic motive, and (b) both the internal and the external conditions for its success.
In developing an ethics of teaching for social justice that uses this virtue framework, we need to identify intellectual and moral virtues that contribute to the aim of social justice. For each relevant virtue, the first task is to understand its characteristic motive, and the second is to examine why it is important for social justice. Third, we should consider the conditions needed for teachers to successfully follow through on this motive across different contexts, attending to both internal and external conditions for success.
