Write a paragraph or two developing a plan for separation of personal and professional ethics, including the impact of the ethical dilemma on the medical assistant’s career.
The Medical Assistant has to assist with a therapeutic abortion and does not want to participate. Is this a personal or professional ethical conflict? Provide possible ways the Medical Assistant could reconcile this conflict. What impact would this have?
Personal ethics are the ethic that the person follows in everyday life in respect to the people and situation. For example, honesty, loyalty, sincerity, regularity to the job, the seriousness of the work. Professional ethics are the ethics that the person has to follow with respect to professional life. These ethics are made by the organization where the person is working. For example, patient information should keep confidentiality. In some situation, there is leads to conflict or dilemma for the person to follow the personal ethic or professional ethic. For the medical assistant, it is his or her job to assist the physician in all the procedures. Therapeutic abortion is accepted by professional ethics. Because this is going to save the life of the pregnant person. If not done abortion the pregnant person has to risk life. But for the personal ethic of the medical assistant, it is not accepted to abort the fetus. It is a conflict between personal ethics to follow or professional ethics to follow. As a medical staff, priority is given to save life of the patient comes first. So the medical assistant should assist the therapeutic abortion to save the life of the pregnant person.
