Yes, it is appropriate for an organization to have evaluation and control process in place along with focus on creativity. The creativity aims to think out of box, try out new ideas and take risk. The creative team works on multiple line at the same time as they are not sure what might work and what might not work. The team requires faster decision making and quick turnaround to come to a solution. In such a situation, it is not appropriate to have too much control and evaluation. The strict adherence to control process can negatively impact the creativity aspect of team. Example: Think of Research and Development firm who is working on developing new medicine for an acute problem. The team requires to experiment by forming different combination of chemicals, different dosage levels, temperature conditions etc. Also, the trials are to be planned and carried out. In case of regular evaluation and strict control norm, wherein, team needs to provide justification for all the chemicals being used, resources that are being engaged, frequent reviews on the outcome, it can be very frustrating for the team. The focus of the members may shift from developing the medicine to preparing justification. However, control and evaluation cannot be completely ignored. It is important to ensure that team is on right track. It also helps to bring in discipline and members are aware that they should focus on reaching the goal as soon as possible with desired level of outcome. Also, team evaluating the work can give good input to the team which can help to instigate creative thinking. Hence, it is essential to have balance between control and evaluation along with creativity in order to match both the requirement. Thus, Control and creativity are compatible to each other
