Ten patients with compulsive disorder are referred for therapy to a psychologist. At the end of therapy, the psychologist records the number of compulsive acts performed each hour by each patient. The scores are:
3, 4, 4, 8, 5, 3, 6, 5, 3, 4
a. Compute the following: mean, mode, median, variance, and standard deviation. Show all your calculations and how your derived your answer. Be sure to circle the answer.
b. Before the start of therapy, each patient performed the following number of compulsive acts each hour:
7, 10, 9, 12, 6, 8, 7, 8, 9, 11
Was the therapy successful, i.e., did it significantly reduce the number of compulsive acts? Report what statistical analysis you should conduct to find out the answer, run that analysis in SPSS, and write down the results.
a. Compute the following: mean, mode, median, variance, and standard deviation. Show all your calculations and how your derived your answer. Be sure to circle the answer.
Mean = 3+4+4+8+5+3+6+5+3/8= 4.5
Median = 4
Mode = 3, 4
Variance = (3 - 4.5)2 + (4 - 4.5)2 (4 - 4.5)2 + (8 - 4.5)2 + (5 - 4.5)2 + (3 - 4.5)2 + (6 - 4.5)2 + (5 - 4.5)2 + (3 - 4.5)2/10 - 1 = 2.5
Standard deviation = 2.5 = 1.58
(b)
The SPSS output is:
The Paired t-test was used.
The p-value is 0.000.
Since the p-value (0) is less than the significance level (0.05), we can reject the null hypothesis.
Therefore, we can conclude that it significantly reduces the number of compulsive acts.
Please give me a thumbs-up if this helps you out. Thank you!
