  • The main types of drainage are Hemovac or Jackson Pratt drain ( Both are Closed sterile Collections)
  • Hemovac can hold of 500ml, whereas, jackson pratt can hold only lesser amount ( Like 50 ml)
  • The drainage site should be checked periodically to determine, whether they function properly and the presence of leakage
  • A drain Cannot be discontinued without a physicians order.
  • The physician should be set an acceptable amount for drain to be removed. When the drain reaches as per physicians order, it can be removed
  • In this case, as it is a drainage evacuator, it is necessary to measure the drainage by emptying into a graduated cylinder ( Answer C)
  • It is adviced not to accumulates any drainage in the wound bed, otherwise, it may leads to delay of wound healing.
  • Documentation of drainage is necessary after measuring it
