A nurse is caring for a client in crisis who has endured a physical assault. The nurse would expect to see which behavior associate with the integration phase of crisis?
Each person copes with trauma in a different way, depending on their circumstances.
The During the integration phase, patient may feel depressed or anxious or they may wish to talk. The nightmares and feelings of shock, guilt, fear, shame, powerlessness, anger, depression and fear of being touched characterised by the acute phase may return. Most of the patients in this phase believe that their feelings mean they have serious emotional problems or that they are going mad or mentally disoppointed. They may find they cannot function as they used to and they may begin to think about the past. This is a good time to go for counselling, because this time, patients mostly receptive to support and reassurance.
Nurses role at this situation is Crisis intervention.
Crisis intervention is an immediate and short-term psychological care by a health care provider aimed at assisting individuals in a crisis situation in order to restore equilibrium to their bio-psycho-social functioning and to minimize the potential of long-term psychological trauma affected by crisis.
