Is racial identity development the same for monoracial and multiracial individuals
One of the most difficult part a multi-racial child experiences is its dilemma on which race it should attach itself. For a mono-racial child, both the parents are from the same race, so they have no problem in identifying with that race and following the practices of that race. The first problem a person from a multi-racial background where the parents are from different race face would be from home because both the parents would ask the person to use their own racial identity. When they get to the society, they will be able to identify themselves with any one of the race and there won’t be a space for mixed race or a category in that name. These children will also undergo bullying as the result of their physical make-up as they would look different. They will be alienated by their peers because of their newness. This confusion will continue with their life in finding a partner, getting an employment, bringing-up the children etc.
