1. Introduction

Team can be defined as a group of individuals who work collectively to achieve the same purposes and goals to provide an excellent quality of services. Team work is the ability to work together towards a common vision and enable the members of the team to have a higher level of emotional security, self-confidence and the ability to plan and decide with others positively. Teamwork is also considered as one of the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results. This is a proposal to conduct a study and explored the effect of team work on employee performance in an organization, using selected medium scale enterprises in the particular organization

2. Problem Statement

Every organization, either large or small, struggles to acquire productivity so as to achieve success and maintain a valuable image in this present world. In today's society, there have been so much emphasis on pride and personal achievement at work place, where by the concept of teamwork seems to be overlooked by managers and employees, due to this management sees less essence of teamwork as a major tool of performance which has lead them to poor performance and productivity in the industry market. Therefore, this study seeks to identify the impact of teamwork has on organizational productivity.

3. Research Question

· How significant is the effect of team member’s abilities on organization productivity? How significant is the effect of team members trust on organization productivity?

· How significant is the effect of team member’s recognition and reward on organization productivity?

· How significant is the effect of team member’s teamwork and organization productivity?

4. Literature review

According to Steiner (1972) teams and teamwork are not novel concepts; teams and team thinking have been around for years at companies such as Procter and Gamble; and Botany. Organizations which have emphasized more on teams have results in increased employee performance, greater productivity and better problem solving at work (Cohen and Bailey, 1999). According to Ingram (2000) teamwork is a strategy that has a potential to improve the performance of individuals and organizations, but it needs to be nurtured over time. Conti and Kleiner (2003) reported that teams offer greater participation, challenges and feelings of accomplishment. Some companies have started to apply team-based strategy in their work performance to maintain the productivity of their workers and to emphasize on the importance of working together as one united entity to achieve the objectives and goals of the organization in the best way possible. Teamwork is a precise organizational measure that shows many different features in all type of organizations including non-profit (Mulika, 2010).


5. Methodology and Sampling

5.1 Type of Research:

The study is classified under a descriptive research and uses two case studies. A descriptive research approach was used since it delivers an in-depth data about a particular subject by describing it from various angles.

5.2 Population

The target population for the study consisted of both management and staff members of particular organization

5.3 Sample and Sampling Technique

A sample size of two hundred (200) respondents was drawn from the population of the organization. Purposive sampling was used to select respondents based on the fact that they have expertise in the area being researched. Convenient Sampling was also used to select respondents among employees based on their ability and willingness to respond to the questionnaire.  

5.4 Data Collection

This includes the Type of Data, Sources of Data, and Instrument for Data Collection and Procedure for Data Collection.

5.4.1 Type of Data

The researcher used ordinal data for the study. This is because the responses to the questionnaire were based on a rating scale and could be ranked.

5.4.2 Source of Data

Primary data type was collected by the researcher. It was obtained from respondents through the administration of questionnaires. This was sourced from the staff and management of the particular organization. The researcher used the primary data because it helps to know what is actually happening on the ground and also come out with findings and recommendations.

5.4.3 Instrument for Data Collection

Questionnaire was the main instrument used to collect data for the study. This was to enhance the truthfulness of the data regarding the study.    

5.5 Method of Data Analysis

Qualitative data analysis was used. It was used to determine the percentages and frequencies in the data analysis. Data gathered through questionnaires was presented in tables and bar charts using SPSS.


6. Findings

According to the literature review, Teamwork is an efficient way of achieving success at work place or in the organization. It helps in boosting the performance, effectiveness and efficiency of work as well as the productivity of organizations as a whole. Organizations prefer a team form of working in conducting its activities as well as achieving its goals and objectives. This study will help to examines the relationship between the teamwork and the organization productivity.


7. Conclusion

This research study will help to revealed the reality that teamwork, leadership and structure, team trust and performance appraisal and rewards have a significant and impact on the productivity of the employees in the organization. The regression analysis and ANOVA also shows the relationship between the teamwork and the organization productivity. Teamwork was found to the most significant independent variable having the most significant impact on productivity, followed by trust among team members, effective leadership in the team and proper system of performance appraisal and rewards. There are several other factors which may impact the productivity of the organization.
