The environmental policy of the United States is a federal a governmental action to address and regulates activities that have an impact on the environment. Environmental policy in the United States involves governmental actions at the federal, state, and local level to protect the environment and conserve natural resources. The national environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of United States is one of the shortest law to exist and Passed by the Congress in 1969. The environmental policy goals are detailed below:

The Environment: According to NEPA the environment will be protected by taking the following actions:

  • Protecting our oceans
  • Land conservation
  • Restoring our ecosystems
  • Renewing the federal commitment to California's Bay Delta
  • Chesapeake Bay protection and restoration
  • Great Lakes restoration
  • Limiting mercury emissions
  • Reducing the environmental impact of mountaintop coal mining
  • Reinvigorate the National Environmental Policy Act
