Ans) Now a days there is increasing trend of using Public relations as a policy by governments around the world. Increasing use of Public relations is justified due to many importance attached to it, some of which are

• Trust building measure - Public relations play an important role in building trust between the civil society and the government. As by giving an insight into policies and justifying it's action to the public the government earns the trust of it's people which is very important for governments to run smoothly.
• To bring a consensus between government and people- public relations also helps in bring a consensus between the government and public. It ensures that people and government are on same page. If there is understanding between them then there will be less public and government clashes.
• It gives sense of involvement to the public in the governance processes .
• It reduces the possibilities of dissent .

During imposition of national emergency and bringing new policy the public relations can play a major role in their success.

As it can convey the message of the government behind the imposition of emergency and new policy. It will also help taking people in confidence so that they do not turn against the government. Also it helps in creating a positive image of the government that it is not working in secrecy and disseminating information to public is important to them.
