In your IT professional career, you will face many situations that will require making an ethical judgement. Your ethical theory, or framework, will be the light in which you will analyse such situations and reach your decisions.
- Discuss in detail an ethical theory that closely matches your ethical principles. If none of them is close enough, explain your own professional ethics philosophy and principles.
First of all, what is the term ethics?
ethics is a branch of philosophy which seeks to address issues related to concepts of right and wrong. It is sometimes referred to as moral philosophy.
Now we turned to concept personal ethics and professional ethics
Personal ethics-refers to the ethics that a person identifies with in respect to people and situations that they deal with in everyday life.
Professional ethics-refers to the ethics that a person must adhere to in respect of their interactions and business dealings in their professional life.
There are many situations occur in our professional lives where we have to make an ethical judgment.
Here i have just mention the key points, not the total situations like what principles you should follow in in your professional life.
1. Always strive for excellence- this is the first principle. One should always be honest regarding to his work and try his best always to generate a great output for whatever work he/she is doing.
2. Be trustworthy- trust is a big issue in today's society. For an employee, trustworthiness means fulfilling an assigned task and as an extension- not letting down expectations, it is been dependable, and reliable when called upon to deliver a service.
3. Be accountable- to be accountable is to stand tall and be counted for what actions you have undertaken, this is the blameworthiness and responsibility for your actions and its consequences- good or bad.
4. Be courteous and respectful- courteousness is being friendly, polite and well mannered towards the other. It makes social interactions in the workplace run smoothly, avoid conflicts and earn respect.
5. Be honest, open and transparent- honesty is a facet of the moral character that connotes positive and virtuous attributes such as, loyalty, fairness, sincerity, openness in communication and generally operating in a way for others to see what actions are being performed. It builds trust among your colleagues and increases your value among them.
6. Be competent and improve continually- competence is the ability of an individual to do a job properly, it is a combination of knowledge, skills and behavior used to improve performance.
7. Be respectful of confidentiality- confidentiality is respecting the set of rules or promise that restricts you from further and unauthorized dissemination of information. In your professional life information will be passed on to you in confidence – either from the organization or from colleagues- and it is important to be true to such confidences.
8. Choose your words carefully- Always conduct yourself professionally. Be kind to others. Do not insult or put down others. Harassment and exclusionary behavior aren't acceptable.
9. Don't harass- In general, if someone asks you to stop something, then stop. When we disagree, try to understand why. Differences of opinion and disagreements are mostly unavoidable. What is important is that we resolve disagreements and differing views constructively.
10. Make differences into strengths- Different people have different perspectives on issues, and that can be valuable for solving problems or generating new ideas. Being unable to understand why someone holds a viewpoint doesn’t mean that they’re wrong. Don’t forget that we all make mistakes, and blaming each other doesn’t get us anywhere.
other than this there are some principles we have to follow which we think that these things are not big deal in our daily work routine
1. Protecting company assets
2. Attendance and Punctuality
3. Absence without notice
4. Cell phone use at work
5. Avoid use of tobacco products at the workplace
6. Internet use at work
7. Must follow the rules and regulations.
The ethics principles are changed person to person or somehow it is as same as I mentioned above.
so follow these principles and set a good example for others.
