Ethical principle are the ones that a nurse should adhere in their professional life to give maximum valued care to the patient.The ethics will help the nurse to understand about her boundaries and limitations in life.There are mainly 6 ethics. They are :
AUTONOMY
Autonomy is a word derived from the Latin with the ''self rule''.which means the respect and independent feeling offered for a patient to take decision about their health and care in other words respect ones own degnity.Every individual have the right to get full information about their own health issues and to take decision accordingly.The principle demand the need to seek the consent or informed agreement of the patient before any investigation or treatment take place.
The nurse should react this principle with full action by informing the patient and allow the patient to take decisions.
NONMALEFICENCE
Nonmaleficence is an important ethical principle simply means 'no harming'.This principle underlines the need of intensional avoidance of needless harm or injury that arise through the care.The nurse is responsible to provide maximum possible care with minimal or nil hatm to the patient.
The nurse should make sure that the procedures will not make any harm for the patient.
BENEFICENCE
Beneficence is a principle that demanding both refraining from maltreatment and maximizing potential benefit care to the patient.Beneficence is highly valued because it defines the standard of care given to the patient.In some instance the nurse should advocates for the patient for their benefitted care and wellbeing.For example the nurse help somebody who is drowning and providing resuscitation or providing pain medication as soon as possible are good examples.
The nurse should look for the best possible care for the patient and help the patient will minimal pain or difficulties.
JUSTICE
Justice in nursing stands for fair care and considerations for all regardless of race,wealth, or anything and provide equal treatment available for all.The nurse is more responsible to check wheater she or her healthcare team distribute equal care to all like resourses,medical attension,quality of care.
It is very important for a nurse to look after a patient without any bias and provide fair treatment care to all patient.
VERACITY
Veracity is simply defined as 'telling the truth'.The respect shown towards a patient and concerned about their need to know the true information about their conditions.Veracity is very important to build a trustfull relationship with the patient.
It is very important as a nurse to reveal all true information to the client.
FIDELITY
FIDELITY IN NURSING MEANT TO BE THE FAITHFULL TO THE PROMISES THAT ARE MADE TO THE PATIENT WHICH IMPROVE THE PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE.The nurse should be faithful to her commitments to the patient.
As a nurse we should make sure that we only make possible promises and make sure we do it on time.
