Take a 20-minute walk or ride (or do anything that involves some movement) and think about the organ systems described in the lecture. Take a break from your activity, and note the following:
• Name 4 organ systems that you feel are working during your activity.
• What roles are 2 of these systems playing in your activity?
• What is one system that you know is working but you’re not feeling it work?
• Name 1 way that your body is maintaining “homeostasis” during your activity.
ANSWER 1: THE FOUR ORGAN SYSTEMS THAT I FEEL ARE WORKING DURING MY ACTIVITY ARE:
1. NERVOUS SYSTEM
2. RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
3. MUSCULAR SYSTEM
4. SKELETAL SYSTEM.
ANSWER 2: NERVOUS SYSTEM IS THE MAIN CONTROL CENTRE OF OUR BODY. IT CONTROLS ALL THE OTHER SYSTEMS. SKELETAL AND MUSCULAR SYSTEMS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR MOVEMENT DURING WALKING OR RIDING. BUT THEY WORK IN CO-ORDINATION WITH THE NERVOUS SYSTEM. THE MUSCLES ACT ( CONTRACTION OR RELAXATION) WHEN THEY RECEIVE SIGNALS FROM THE BRAIN.
ANSWER 3. CIRCULATORY SYSTEM. ABSOLUTELY OUR BODY IS WORKING BECAUSE OF CIRCULATORY SYSTEM. THE HEART PUMPS BLOOD TO THE REST OF THE BODY ORGANS. THE BLOOD SUPPLIES NUTRIENTS AND OXYGEN TO THE ORGANS WHICH IS NECESSARY FOR THEIR FUNCTIONING.BUT SINCE ITS JUST A WALK OR A RIDE, WE CANNOT FEEL OUR HEART WORKING. AS THEIR IS NO INCREASE IN HEART BEAT. DURING ACTIVITIES LIKE RUNNING, CYCLING OR ANY OTHER PHYSICAL ACTIVITY WHICH INCREASES THE WORK LOAD ON HEART, WE CAN FEEL OUR HEART RATE RISING UP. THIS IS BECAUSE OUR HEART HAS TO WORK MORE TO INCREASE THE CARDIAC OUTPUT TO MEET THE DEMANDS OF THE BODY.
ANSWER 4:EACH AND EVERY SYSTEM PLAYS A ROLE IN MAINTAINING HOMEOSTASIS DURING THIS ACTIVITY. FOR MAINTANING THE pH OF THE EXTRACELLULAR FLUID, THE EXCRETORY SYSTEM, CIRCULATORY SYSTEM HELP IN REGULATING THE pH IN WHICH THE CELLS LIVE. WHILE DOING ANY ACTIVVITY, OUR BODY REQUIRES CONSTANT SUPPLY OF NUTRIENTS AND OXYGEN,SO THE RESPIRATORY AND CIRCULATORY SYSTEM WORK FOR THIS.THE NERVOUS SYSTEM ALSO HELPS IN MAINTAINING THE HOMEOSTASIS.
