Your organization is hiring a new director. You are on the hiring team (but not leading it). The hiring team leader (powerful and senior to you) wants to hire A. You believe B is a much better choice. The rest of the hiring team is supporting the team leader due to groupthink.
In response to this scenario, explain how you would use ethos, pathos, and logos to persuade the team to select candidate B (your choice).
The organization wants to hire a new director. The team leader thinks A should be hired whereas I think B is better than A. The rest of the employees also supports the choice of the team leader.\
As an honest employee, I want to persuade everyone to hire candidate B because I feel, B fits much better in the position compare to candidate A.
Logos - Here I'll be using logical appeal to convince the team leader and rest of the employees to select B over A. I'll be drawing a comparison between both the candidates putting them in different situations in every comparison and will rate 1 to the better and 0 to the other.
For example -
Situation | A | B |
a | 0 | 1 |
b | 0 | 1 |
c | 1 | 0 |
d | 0 | 1 |
Conclusion is B is better in more situations compare to A
Pathos - In this I'll be using emotional appeal to convince the team of selecting B over A.
I'll be telling what all I see in candidate B and what has impressed me about B. All possible positives I can speak that time about B. As I know the team and team leader, I'll list out those points which they like to see in a candidate, so that I can hit their emotional senses towards my opinion.
Ethos - Here, I'll be using ethical appeal to convince the team to select B over A.
I'll tell the team how credible I am and it will be worth listening me with an open mind.
I'll talk in the most comforting language which my team is used to, maybe the local language or the language which most of the employees like.
I'll reason all possible points I feel necessary at that moment, be it my degree or my accomplishments at work.
At the end I'll make sure I put my best efforts to convince everyone to chose candidate B over A.
